โจ Check out this incredible eastern osprey nest on a navigation beacon in the Gold Coast Broadwater! These magnificent birds thrive in coastal areas, islands, and estuaries, creating nests up to 2 meters wide from sticks, driftwood, and seaweed. ๐ชต๐
Breeding from April to February, eastern ospreys form long-term bonds with their mates. Females lay 2-3 eggs, with both parents taking turns incubating them for around 40 days. The chicks stay with their mother until theyโre ready to fly at about 9 weeks. ๐ฃ๐ช
With a fishing success rate of up to 70%, these ospreys are skilled hunters, catching almost 3 out of every 4 fish they dive for! Plus, they have a special third eyelid that acts like goggles, allowing them to see underwater. ๐๐
